Perfectly Wonderful Magical

Time change happened over the weekend, leading to the dark settling in early. And today, the rain began. All day drizzle. Not to mention the uncertainty of a certain election taking place south of the border. One of the ways I chose to rest today was to think back to moments I want to remember from the summer. Here is a little poem I wrote the first night of our family holiday on Vancouver Island. It was the perfect escape for our family. With games and good food and conversation and swimming and reading and talking and JUST BEING. While I think back and reflect, I will also think about how I can be present here and now and find wonder, contentment, peace and gratitude.

A perfectly wonderful magical ‘fantastical’ evening.

Here at our ‘Treehouse Oasis’ in Nanoose.

I wanted to see what the tide was like at its height.

So with my sister and my oldest daughter we marched down the 76 stairs.

Black pebbles of varying sizes. Smooth.

The ocean, calm with slight ripples and the odd fish jump.

A crescent beach surrounded by cliff and jagged beach rock.

A half crescent moon in the light blue sky as the sun dipped beyond the rocks.

Oh the treasures to be found!

Cleaned out muscle and barnacle shells.

White smoothed pieces of oyster shell and the odd crab.

And a piece of aqua blue sea glass.

Five minutes spent crouched over a tide pool formed in the jagged rocks

We poked sea anemones and watched them close up.

Striped black  and white fish darted too and fro

Between clumps of “water balloons”... seaweed.

With the collection of treasures gathered up in my shirt for safe keeping.

We wandered back towards the steps.

“Momma! Wait for me!” I turn and see my precious 4 year old.

She’s running towards me, hair blowing back, the biggest smile.

Wonder. God has entrusted me with this precious girl. What a gift!

Content. There’s a certain ‘filledness’ that comes from a slow meander.

Peace. He leads me by still waters. He restores my soul.

Gratitude. There is no place I’d rather be.
